Job summary

DeKalb Regional Medical Center in Fort Payne, AL is seeking a Registered Nurse to plan, supervise and evaluate patient care, coordinating the nursing process with the medical plan and facility policies.

The RN will assess patients, implement and document care, assist physicians during exams, administer medications, and educate patients and families. Requires RN license in Alabama, an associate degree, and BLS; ACLS after 6 months.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
• Desirable to have at least two years of hospital/medical environment experience.
• Current Alabama RN license; BLS required and ACLS after 6 months.
• Knowledge of growth and development principles and age-appropriate patient care.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Registered Nurse shall be responsible for planning, supervising and evaluating the nursing care of patients and for correlating the nursing process, the medical plan of care and policies.

The nurse evaluates assigned patients and plans, implements and documents nursing care. Assists physicians during examinations and procedures. Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse. Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires an associate's degree and is certified as a registered nurse. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Experience

Desirable characteristics include at least two years of experience in a hospital or medically related environment. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to the patient’s needs and to provide care needed as described to in policy and procedure.

Licenses/Certificates

Current License with the Alabama Board of Nursing. Current BLS required and ACLS after 6 months.
