Job summary

Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center in Columbia, MD is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Special Care Unit (SCU). This full-time Day Shift position offers a 36-hour workweek from 7a to 7p in a 262-bed acute care community hospital.

You will care for lower acuity ICU step-down patients on drips, collaborating with a skilled SCU team and contributing to a culture of excellence under strong leadership.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in nursing (ADN) required.
• BSN preferred; must matriculate if ADN.
• RN license in good standing required.

Responsibilities

• As a Registered Nurse in the SCU, provide direct patient care to adult patients in transition from ICU to stepdown.
• Monitor patients on telemetry and manage drips as prescribed.
• Collaborate with SCU team to ensure safe, evidence-based care.

Registered Nurse (RN) SCU

Weekly Working Hours: 36 hours per week

Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center cares for a range of patients with severe health conditions. Our hospital has a highly specialized community-based Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and (SCU) dedicated to adult patients requiring intensive monitoring and care after surgery or due to medical conditions, including cardiac care.

As a Registered Nurse in the Special Care Unit (SCU), you will be privileged to care for lower acuity ICU Stepdown patients on drips with complex medical and surgical problems.

Darlene Norton serves as the Nurse Manager, with a demonstrated track record of effective leadership. Darlene began her career at Johns Hopkins Hospital as a PCT prior to completing nursing school and then working as a nurse in the CCU. In a short span, she showcased her capabilities, earning promotions to Lead Clinical RN and Assistant Nurse Manager in 2019. Her journey continued when she later transferred to HCMC.

Darlene is not only a proficient leader but also a mentor who actively supports the professional growth of RNs. She oversees three vital units: The Intensive Care Unit, the Special Care Unit (IMCU) and Interventional Radiology and Cardiac Cath Nursing. Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) (Required),
• Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) (Preferred) and
• Applicants with an associate degree in nursing will be considered. Per nursing guidelines, must matriculate into a Bachelor of Nursing program.
• RN - Registered Nurse License (Required)
• CPR - Basic CPR (Required)
• Minimum six (6) months of nursing experience (Required)
• 1 year of nursing experience (Preferred)
• 1 year of Telemetry, Stepdown, IMCU or Critical experience (Preferred)

Salary Range:

Minimum $37.13/hour - Maximum $57.87/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
