Position Overview

Responsible for delivering and coordinating nursing care within a multidisciplinary team, utilizing the nursing process to ensure comprehensive, high-quality care. Provides compassionate, patient-centered care while supporting patients and families through emotional challenges and crises. Prioritizes patient safety and strives for optimal outcomes through evidence-based practice. Educates and advocates for patients and families, empowering them with knowledge and resources for treatment and self-care. Demonstrates professionalism and upholds MLH's Mission, Vision, and Values, serving as a role model for nursing excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments to develop individualized care plans.
  2. Educate patients and families on care plans, medications, and self-care strategies.
  3. Develop, implement, and adjust care plans based on ongoing assessments.
  4. Administer medications safely, following best practices.
  5. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care.

Qualifications

Education

  • Post-Graduate Certificate or Diploma in Nursing - RN
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing - RN

Experience

  • Minimum of 6 months RN experience
  • Preferred: Over 1 year in a similar clinical setting

Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of patient care and assessment using the nursing process.
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act and RN scope of practice.
  • Critical thinking skills for complex clinical decision-making.
  • Effective delegation skills for team collaboration.
  • Familiarity with healthcare technology (e.g., EHR, barcode scanning).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association
  • Registered Nurse - Tennessee Board of Nursing
  • Preferred: Certification in clinical specialty

Supervision

  • The RN directs and delegates all patient care activities on nursing units.

Physical Demands

  • Activities include climbing, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, repetitive motions.
  • Must have good balance, coordination, and visual acuity.
  • Physical exertion up to 50 lbs. occasionally and 25 lbs. frequently.
  • Frequent patient contact, exposure to body fluids and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergencies.
