RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an OR RN Resident in Rahway for December start, based at RWJUH Rahway Hospital. The program includes five weeks of classroom training followed by four weeks of combined classroom and hands-on OR training, totaling nine months of orientation.

Job Summary: The Registered Nurse Resident provides nursing care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics. The RN assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of their own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for his/her own professional advancement.

Essential Functions: The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive patient care throughout the perioperative process. They are responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of patients during surgical procedures as well as preparing the operating room, handling surgical equipment, and collaborating with the surgical team. The OR RN will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and adhere to the highest standards and practice of patient safety, infection control and professional ethics.

As an OR Nurse, a typical day might include:

• Scrubbing in and circulating in a variety of OR specialty areas such as Robotics, Surgical Oncology, Plastics, Transplant, Neurology, Thoracic, Trauma, Cardiac, Vascular, ENT/Head and Neck, GYN, Urology and Bariatrics.


• Participation in complex surgeries using the latest technology in our state-of-the-art surgical suites.


• Serving as an integral member of the perioperative team and advocate for patients undergoing anesthesia and/or sedation.


• Working cooperatively with the multidisciplinary care team to maintain professional nursing practice standards in the perioperative setting


• Participating in shared clinical decision-making
