Job description

Serving the needs of Garfield Heights and the Southeast communities of Cuyahoga County since 1949, Marymount Hospital is a 269-registered bed acute care, faith-based hospital and became the first regional hospital to become a member of the Cleveland Clinic Healthcare System in 1995. Marymount Hospital's 2 East is a med/surg unit that provides general medical care and pre-/post-operative care to patients requiring orthopaedic surgical interventions such as hip and knee replacements and fractures. 2 South also provides general medical care and pre-/post-operative care to patients requiring various surgical procedures, such as hysterectomy, TURPs, thyroidectomy, cholecystectomy and debridements. 2 East and 2 South both specialize in treating patients with congestive heart failure, chest tubes, wound VACs and endocrinology disorders.

A caregiver in this position works a day/night rotation of 7:00AM - 7:30PM or 7:00PM - 7:30AM.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participates in a residency core curriculum based on their individual learning needs.
  2. Provides direct nursing care, alongside a coach, in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
  3. Establishes and/or revises priorities for patient care activities based on the following: acuity of need, patient preference, and resource availability.
  4. Initiates and/or maintains interventions to assure continuity of safe/effective care for patients.
  5. Responds to data indicating risk to individual's health and initiates action to correct, reduce, or prevent the risk.
  6. Seeks supervision, consultation, assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  7. Complies with established hospital/department personnel policies.
  8. Uses communication strategies in order to achieve desirable outcomes.
  9. Documents in patient's medical record according to established guidelines.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  1. Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  2. BSN preferred.

Certifications:

  1. Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  2. Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be presented upon hire.

Complexity of Work:

  1. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  2. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  1. New grad or less than one year RN work experience or if experienced RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical inpatient setting with less than one year current acute direct patient care RN experience.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  2. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  3. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  4. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  5. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  6. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  7. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
