Job description

This community-based hospital provides top-quality patient care to the communities in and around Cuyahoga County on the beautiful coast of Lake Erie. The caregivers at Euclid Hospital have made it an excellent medical facility and a home away from home.

Euclid Hospital's 9th floor Med/Surg and Stroke Unit is designated for patients who have recently suffered from a stroke and provides the highest level of comprehensive stroke care that ensures patients are being treated quickly, leading to improved outcomes and reduced recovery times. As a Registered Nurse, you will become familiar with complex medical histories, innovative surgical procedures, pain modalities, and comprehensive nutritional support.

Responsibilities:
  1. Participates in a residency core curriculum based on their individual learning needs.
  2. Provides direct nursing care, alongside a coach, in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
  3. Establishes and/or revises priorities for patient care activities based on the following: acuity of need, patient preference, and resource availability.
  4. Initiates and/or maintains interventions to assure continuity of safe/effective care for patients.
  5. Responds to data indicating risk to individual's health and initiates action to correct, reduce, or prevent the risk.
  6. Seeks supervision, consultation, assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  7. Complies with established hospital/department personnel policies.
  8. Uses communication strategies in order to achieve desirable outcomes.
  9. Documents in patient's medical record according to established guidelines.
  10. Other duties as assigned.
Education:
  1. Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  2. BSN preferred.
Certifications:
  1. Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  2. Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA).
  3. If in an ED, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department.
  4. Any registered nurse or advanced practice nurse must obtain a cancer specific certification or demonstrate ongoing qualifying education within the timeframe of the facilities accreditation cycle, if they work in medical oncology, radiation oncology, cancer center or cancer clinic and/or administer chemotherapy within an accredited Cleveland Clinic facility.
Complexity of Work:
  1. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  2. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Work Experience:
  1. New grad or less than one year RN work experience or if experienced RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical inpatient setting with less than one year current acute direct patient care RN experience.
Physical Requirements:
  1. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  2. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  3. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  4. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  5. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  6. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  7. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  1. Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
