CLIN NURSE 2 – Registered Nurse – Perinatal Float Pool

Department: Labor and Delivery. Worksite: Jacobs Medical Center. Appointment Type: Career, 90% appointment. Union: NX Contract. Total Openings: 7. Work Schedule: Nights, 12‑Hour shifts, Sunday‑Saturday.

DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization with a focus on nursing excellence. The Perinatal Float Pool RN provides family‑centered care across multiple perinatal units, supporting Hillcrest Labor & Delivery, Jacobs Medical Center Labor & Delivery, and Jacobs Medical Center Postpartum. Float nurses receive unit assignments prior to each shift and provide coverage based on census, acuity, and staffing needs. Responsibilities may include high‑risk Labor & Delivery, triage, ante‑partum care, couplet care, operating room, and post‑anesthesia care unit, depending on the assigned unit.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously in accordance with ANA Standards of Practice. Independent judgment is exercised within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
• Active California RN license.
• BLS/CPR certification at time of hire; commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire.
• Current NRP certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
• Certificate of course completion of fetal monitoring.
• Minimum two years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience in a high‑delivery‑volume hospital and/or two years of recent Postpartum or LDRP RN experience; recent experience defined as within the past one year.
• Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately complex problems to develop potential solutions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• BSN.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• RNC certification.
• Experience as triage, circulator or PACU, and/or charge.
• Greater than two years of relevant acute care experience.
• Experience working in an academic medical center.
• Evidence of contributions to improving nursing practice through quality improvement.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

• Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
• Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.

PAY RANGE

Annual Full Pay Range: $138,330 – $193,892 (prorated for percentages less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $66.25 – $92.86.
