Qualifications

The Apheresis RN will be responsible for plasmapheresis, photopheresis, stem cell collections, LDL apheresis, RBC exchange, and white cell depletions. This position requires flexible availability to various sites. Willing to train appropriate candidate. Includes Pediatric, on-call and weekend assignments.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.

• RN License issued by the State of California.

• BART or BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six months of hire date.

• At least one (1) year of recent Therapeutic Apheresis RN experience, Infusion, Vascular, ICU, Emergency Department, or other comparable procedural or acute-care RN experience within the past six months.

• Demonstrated proficiency and experience with peripheral IV insertion and other vascular access options such as a central venous catheter or implanted ports.

• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions.

• Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.

• Ability to safely operate highly specialized equipment and manage complex procedures while maintaining close observation of the patient.

• Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care, teamwork, professionalism, empathy, and respectful communication.

• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.

• Ability to work at multiple UC San Diego Health locations and participate in pediatric, on-call, weekend, and other scheduling assignments based on operational needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• BSN.
• Experience performing therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE).
• Experience with additional therapeutic apheresis procedures such as extracorporeal photopheresis, red blood cell exchange, cellular therapy or stem cell collection, or LDL apheresis.
• Experience with hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC), immune effector cell (IEC), CAR-T, Gene Therapy, or other cellular therapy collections.
• Experience managing extracorporeal circuits, difficult vascular access, and/or ultrasound-guided peripheral IV insertion.
• Experience caring for both adult and pediatric patient populations.
• Experience working in an academic medical center, specialty procedural setting, or clinical research environment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

• Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
• Per-diem shift requirement is an average of 1 shift per week. Must be available 1 weekend shift every 4 weeks and 1 major holiday. This is subject to change based on department needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $190,342 - $190,342 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $91.16 - $91.16
