UAB Medicine’s Highlands unit seeks a compassionate RN to care for post-surgical and geriatric patients in a 23-bed ACE unit. You will apply the nursing process, assess needs through AACN models, and coordinate care with the care team to deliver safe, cost-conscious treatment.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited nursing program, and an Alabama RN license with BLS. BSN preferred; ACLS/PALS may be required depending on unit. Great benefits and teamwork await.

Job Highlights

The Hospitalist/Acute Care for Elders (ACE) 2 Unit or "Highlands 4 North" is a 23-bed acute care unit located at UAB Hospital-Highlands that provides care to post-surgical patients, as well as those transferred from the emergency department, ICU, or admitted from a physician office. This unit also provides care to some geriatric patients transferred from the ACE Unit. The ACE Unit is the very first of its kind in Alabama and is nationally recognized for addressing the health care needs of geriatric patients. UAB Hospital-Highlands combine the feel of a community hospital - including neighborhood location - with the same expertise and technology available at our flagship facility.

Job Description

To utilize the nursing process to care and/or counsel individuals in the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention of illness and injury. Using a systematic critical-thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, intervention and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems through activities such as health teaching, health counseling and the provision of care supportive and restorative of life and supportive of a peaceful death. To identify patient needs using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Synergy Model. To delegate, coordinate and manage all aspects of nursing care provided to the patient, their family and our community in a timely and cost-effective manner. To deliver patient care in collaboration with the patient, their family and all members of the health care team and with the knowledge of a licensed physician, psychologist, podiatrist, and/or dentist.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Nursing program required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. If job is in a free-standing emergency department (FSED) location, one (1) year of emergency or ICU nursing experience is required. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
