UAB Medicine's ACE Unit at Highlands is seeking a registered nurse to provide holistic geriatric care on a 26-bed unit. You will use nursing processes to promote health, prevent illness, and support patients and families in care decisions within a multidisciplinary team.

This role requires an accredited nursing program graduate, Alabama RN eligibility, and BLS; ACLS/PALS may be required depending on the unit. UAB Medicine offers comprehensive benefits and professional growth.

Job Highlights

The Acute Care for Elders Unit (ACE) or \"Highlands 4 Main\" is a 26-bed acute care unit located at UAB Hospital-Highlands that provides care to post-surgical geriatric patients, as well as those transferred from the emergency department, ICU, or admitted from a physician office. The ACE Unit is the very first of its kind in Alabama and is nationally recognized for addressing the health care needs of geriatric patients. The unit utilizes an interdisciplinary care team trained in geriatrics to provide acutely ill older adults with holistic care of the highest quality. Promoting health, preventing complications, optimizing function, and preserving dignity are all important components of their mission. Opportunities for professional growth could include our geriatric scholars program and specialized certifications. UAB hospital-Highlands combines the feel of a community hospital -including neighborhood location - with the same expertise and technology available at our flagship facility.

Job Description

To utilize the nursing process to care and/or counsel individuals in the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention of illness and injury. Using a systematic critical-thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, intervention and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems through activities such as health teaching, health counseling and the provision of care supportive and restorative of life and supportive of a peaceful death. To identify patient needs using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Synergy Model. To delegate, coordinate and manage all aspects of nursing care provided to the patient, their family and our community in a timely and cost-effective manner. To deliver patient care in collaboration with the patient, their family and all members of the health care team and with the knowledge of a licensed physician, psychologist, podiatrist, and/or dentist.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Nursing program required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. If job is in a free-standing emergency department (FSED) location, one (1) year of emergency or ICU nursing experience is required. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
