Job summary

UAB Medicine’s Emergency Department in Alabama is seeking a Registered Nurse for multiple shifts (evening, day, night, and PRN rotating). The role provides direct patient care, coordinates multidisciplinary plans, and supports timely discharge planning.

Qualifications

• Diploma from an accredited nursing program and active nursing license.
• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS and PALS certifications required within 180 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care according to policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Implement and monitor care plans; document patient conditions and communicate changes.
• Coordinate care across disciplines and carry out physician/nurse orders.
• Assess discharge planning needs and coordinate with the health care team.

Job Description

Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

• Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
• Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient’s discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• PALS Provider obtained within 6 months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND professional licensure at time of hire required.
• For the Freestanding Emergency Room, a minimum of one (1) year of critical care or emergency experience is required.
