Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking an experienced OR nurse to join the CVOR team. This full-time day-shift role supports surgical services in a busy operative setting, delivering scrub and circulating nursing care and assisting the surgeon.

Requires diploma, Alabama RN licensure, and BLS/ACLS; on-site work at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham with comprehensive benefits within a large health system.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire date.
• ACLS certification within 180 days of hire date.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentials per Alabama Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting for surgical patients.
• Perform scrub functions: instrument selection and handling during procedures.
• Perform circulating functions: monitor and communicate patient condition; manage nursing care before, during, and after procedures.
• Directly assist the operating physician with surgical tasks and patient positioning; prepare rooms and equipment.

Job Description

Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.

• Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure.
• Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure.
• Directly assist operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure as well as patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND professional licensure at time of hire required.
