Job summary

Opelousas General Health System is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse for the Recovery unit in Opelousas, LA. The role provides direct nursing care using the nursing process for patients from infant to geriatric, and encompasses technical nursing functions in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include documentation, maintaining a safe environment, patient education, life support, and collaboration with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with either an Associate or Bachelor degree.
• La State Board of Nursing license and CPR required. ACLS and PALS preferred.
• One year of RN experience preferred; knowledge of diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care using the nursing process.
• Document patient records and maintain data on patient records.
• Maintain a safe environment and advocate for patients.
• Administer intravenous medications and/or parenteral nutrition; blood products.
• Collaborate with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans.
• Participate in performance improvement and supervise care delegation where appropriate.
• Communicate pertinent data to appropriate parties.

Under direction, provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process, performs technical nursing functions and upholds the standard of practice of a professional nurse in caring for infant through geriatric patients.

• Utilizes the nursing process as the basis for nursing care.
• Performs nursing functions, applying professional skills.
• Documents and maintains date on patient's record.
• Maintains a safe environment.
• Applies basic teaching / learning concepts to patient education.
• Provides for life support.
• Acts as a patient advocate.
• Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit, department and overall hospital team.
• Participates in performance improvement.
• Delegates and / or supervises aspects of care to team members and reviews completion.
• Performs related work as required.
• Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.
• Conducts himself/herself effectively in stressful situations.
• Approaches situations with distressed patients, families, and visitors in a calm, professional manner.
• Collaborates with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients.
• Properly assesses and manages patient populations with appropriate intervention.
• Administers intravenous medications and / or parenteral nutrition.
• Administers blood products and evaluates patient response.

Education: Graduate of accredited School of Nursing with either an Associate or Bachelor degree.

License/Certification: La State Board of Nursing License and CPR required. ACLS and PALS preferred.

Additional experience preferred:

• One year of RN experience preferred
• Current knowledge of clinical practice.
• Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
• Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
