Job summary

A healthcare staffing agency is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Pre-Op / Same Day Surgery position in Chicago, Illinois. In this role, you’ll assess and prepare patients prior to surgery, monitor their vital signs, and collaborate closely with a team of healthcare professionals. Requirements include a graduate nursing degree, an active Illinois RN license, BLS and ACLS certifications, and 4-5 years of experience in PACU/SDS. Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school (Required).
• Current Registered Nurse License in Illinois.
• BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
• 4-5 years of PACU/SDS or similar experience.
• Ability to work variable hours.
• Adaptive to learn new techniques in the OR.
• Experience with spine, ortho and robotic surgeries is preferred.
• Knowledge of inventory and supplies in the operating room.

About the job RN-Pre-Op / Same Day Surgery

Job Requirements:

• Assess, instruct & prepare patients prior to surgery
• Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and correct
• Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure
• Initiate IVs and ensure patients are informed about procedure
• Assess patients post-operative condition
• Monitor vital signs and other measurements of progress, meeting discharge criteria
• Monitor patients for condition changes, reporting any changes to physician
• Communicates and collaborates with nurses, physicians, technicians and other members of the healthcare team to develop a plan of care to ensure optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care.
• Charts observations and activities related to patient care in electronic health record.
• Provides safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care for a patient population using critical thinking skills, advocacy abilities and ethical approaches.
• Demonstrates awareness of organizational values, mission, and philosophy through interactions with physicians, patients and peers.
• Assumes responsibility for professional education and development.
• Complete mandatory in-service requirements.
• Completes at least 20 hours of continuing education in addition to mandatory requirements within the last year that is specific to daily clinical practice.
