Job summary

Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, NM is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse to help patients prepare for surgery by completing assessments, reviewing medical histories, and providing pre-procedure education. You will join a collaborative surgical team dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality patient care.

In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to provide direct patient care, coordinate patient care with the healthcare team, and adapt to varied shifts including weekend

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in nursing and NM license or compact license.
  • Current BLS certification required at time of hire.
  • ACLS and PALS certifications preferred or required as noted.
  • Experience in ICU or emergency room settings is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care using the nursing process during shifts.
  • Assess, plan, implement and document patient care and responses.
  • Coordinate patient care with families and the healthcare team.
  • Adhere to unit standards and care protocols, including medication administration.
  • Demonstrate leadership and assist with orientation and training as needed.
  • Respond competently to emergencies and support clinical supervision.

Responsibilities
  • PRN Shift Schedule
  • 3 shifts 6 weeks minimum; (1 Call shift) Call is Weekend;
  • 8,9 or 12 hour Varies 545-1515; 545-1430 or 6-1830

In this role, you will be responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide direct patient care to an assigned group of patients during a shift. As well as responsible for prioritizing the delivery of direct nursing care using time and resources efficiently integrating a standards based framework model

Additional Job Duties
  • Provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting individual patient needs, actions taken and patient responses.
  • Coordinates patients care through collaboration with the patient/family and healthcare team.
  • Performs assessments as per unit standards and documents on appropriate data base/assessment flow sheet.
  • Initiates, utilizes and documents appropriate protocols and standards of care
  • Administers medication and treatments as prescribed by physician, or standard protocols and documents according to policy.
  • Identifies and meets patient and family learning and discharge needs on admission and throughout episode of care.
  • Evaluates patient progression toward outcomes per unit standards and documents through EOSS etc.
  • Performs competently in emergency situations.
  • Delegates or assigns aspects of patient care to healthcare team members commensurate with their validated competency to perform the task.
  • Provides leadership through communication about and validation of patient care.
  • Assists with various procedures, treatments, surgical techniques or delegate/assign to other healthcare team members as appropriate.
  • Completes patient population/age specific/procedure and protocol education and competency testing per unit standards.
  • Demonstrates competency in required psychomotor skills.
  • Assists in orientation of new staff or students, and serve as a resource person and professional role model.
  • Assumes professional responsible for current nursing structure and clinical standards of care.
  • Assumes responsibility for the clinical supervision of LPNs and non-licensed assertive personnel.
  • Incorporates PHS mission (VVPS) in care-giving activities.
  • Supports DON philosophies of shared governance and models of care delivery.
  • Meets requirements of PRN connection agreement.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting patient care needs in other departments through floating within cluster.
  • Assumes other leadership roles (i.e. relief charge nurse) as required by the department.
  • Performs other functions as required.
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License or Compact Licensure
  • BLS certification REQUIRED at time of hire
  • ICU or Emergency Room Experience preferred.
  • ACLS: Recovery Room- Required
  • PALS: Recovery Room- Required
