Job summary

Presbyterian Santa Fe Medical Center is seeking an Emergency Room (ER) Nurse to provide direct patient care in a fast-paced trauma environment, working 12-hour night shifts in Santa Fe, NM.

We welcome new graduates and experienced RNs; a Nurse Residency Program offers seminars, mentoring, and roundings to support transition into practice.

Compensation includes sign-on/relocation bonuses, tuition and certification reimbursement, loan forgiveness, malpractice insurance, and access to EPIC charting.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing
• State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License
• BLS certification REQUIRED at time of hire
• ACLS & PALS required

Responsibilities

• Triage and assessment: Quickly evaluate incoming patients to determine severity of illness or injury and prioritize care accordingly.
• Monitor vital signs and patient status: Regularly check and record vitals and monitor changes to detect deterioration.
• Stabilization and emergency interventions: Provide immediate treatments such as IV access, airway support, immobilization, suturing, or hemorrhage control.
• Medication administration and treatments: Administer medications including IVs, blood products, or prescribed therapies per orders.
• Diagnostic testing and interpretation: Perform or assist with labs, imaging, and interpretation of results.
• Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams: Work with physicians, paramedics, techs, and other specialists to plan care and transfers.
• Documentation and charting: Maintain accurate histories, interventions, responses, and discharge instructions.
• Patient and family communication: Provide information, support, and education with professionalism.
• Infection control and department upkeep: Maintain hygiene and safe environment.
• Discharge planning and referrals: Assist with arranging home care, rehab, or admissions.

Responsibilities:

  Regularly check and record vitals (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature) and monitor any changes to detect early signs of deterioration.
• Stabilization and emergency interventions
  Provide immediate treatments such as intravenous (IV) access, airway support (e.g., intubation, tracheotomy), immobilization of fractures, suturing, or hemorrhage control.
• Medication administration and treatments
  Administer medications-including IVs, blood products, or prescribed therapies-ensuring correct dosing and timely delivery per physician orders.
• Diagnostic testing and interpretation
  Perform or assist with lab draws, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures; gather and interpret results to inform care decisions.
• Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
  Work alongside physicians, paramedics, techs, and other specialists to develop care plans, refer patients, and facilitate transfers or admissions.
• Documentation and charting
  Accurately document patient histories, interventions, responses, vital signs, and discharge instructions-maintaining compliance with legal and hospital standards.
• Patient and family communication
  Provide clear information, emotional support, and education while maintaining professionalism and empathy.
• Infection control and department upkeep
  Maintain hygiene standards, properly clean and restock equipment, and ensure a safe environment to minimize infection risks.
• Discharge planning and referrals
  Assist in arranging home care, rehabilitation services, specialist follow-ups, or admissions to psychiatric units as needed.
