Job summary

Saint Alphonsus Health System is seeking an experienced RN Patient Safety Coordinator to elevate nursing practice and safety across our hospitals and clinics in Idaho.

The role leads education and mentoring, partners with Nursing leadership, and participates in governance structures while coordinating safety initiatives with Trinity Health. Travel to multiple sites is required; a portion of remote work is possible after establishing relationships.

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • Experience as a program coordinator or educator preferred.
  • Experience with leading project improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and database basics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in development of the patient safety strategic plan for safe nursing practice.
  • Develops and provides education and mentoring to nursing teams.
  • Participates in unit meetings and committees that align with patient safety initiatives.
  • Travels within the area to various hospitals and ambulatory sites for rounds.
  • Consults with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to identify safety opportunities.
  • Delivers just-in-time training and answers questions.
  • Conducts audits and collects data to measure outcomes and processes.
  • Maintains databases on process and outcome metrics.
  • Displays and communicates findings related to nursing quality and safety.
  • Ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards.

RN PATIENT SAFETY COORDINATOR

SUMMARY:

Elevate your professional practice and career by applying your clinical, communication and educational skills by becoming a Patient Safety Coordinator. Evaluates and implements the aspects of the organization’s overall plan for patient safety that involves any aspects of patient risk, both within the ministry as well as the clinic setting. Focuses on patient safety priorities as defined by Trinity Health and Saint Alphonsus. Provides facilitation and consultation to Nursing leadership and is an active participant in the Nursing Council structure. The Patient Safety Coordinator communicates regularly with the board (governance) and senior administrative leadership; the position is a primary point of contact of the integrated patient safety program.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse. Bachelor's degree in nursing required.

  • Experience as a program coordinator, in a nursing leadership position or as an educator preferred.

  • Experience with leading project improvement initiatives.

  • Basic database development, data display and analysis preferred.

  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice methodology preferred.

HOURS: The selected candidate may support this role in a five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts. One could work remotely up to 25% after establishing relationships. Office locations: Boise or Nampa, Idaho.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Participates in the development of the organization’s patient safety strategic plan as it pertains to safe nursing practice.

  • Develops and provides education and mentoring to Saint Alphonsus' Nursing Teams.

  • Participates in unit-based meetings, and other committees/meetings that align with patient safety initiatives.

  • Must be able to travel within the area to make frequent rounds on the nursing units/clinics to include the four hospitals and ambulatory sites.

  • Consult with nursing and inter-disciplinary teams to identify patient safety opportunities.

  • Observe and evaluate practice/process change progress.

  • Provide just-in-time training and answer questions.

  • Conducts audits or other data collection methods to evaluate progress on outcome or process measures.

  • Maintains databases on process and outcome metrics.

  • Displays, analyzes, and communicates findings related to nursing quality and patient safety.

  • Maintains compliance with Joint Commission standards.

  • Identifies evidence-based practice related to patient safety initiatives and assimilates evidence-based practice into current processes.

  • Self-directed and professional with critical thinking skills.

  • Exercises judgment and tactful discussion of clinical quality and safety issues.
