Description
- Assessment Skills: Has competent knowledge of all the normal stages of growth and development from Pediatric to Geriatric and delivers patient care appropriately. Performs thorough assessments that are systematic, comprehensive, and accurate.
- Clinical Skills: Consistently demonstrates competent clinical skills. Performs direct patient care activities in support of patient care delivery and team concept. Provides competent and appropriate nursing care to the population of the unit. Demonstrates knowledge and skill of emergency equipment and procedures.
- Documentation: Maintains complete and accurate documentation. Demonstrates knowledge of documentation guidelines. Assumes primary responsibility for documenting components of the nursing process and patient’s progress toward meeting outcomes in the patient’s chart, including patient education.
- Professionalism: Demonstrates professional practice responsibility. Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures and is able to identify areas for clinical and professional growth.
- Patient Satisfaction: Consistently responds to patients’, families’, and co-workers’ needs in a professional, courteous, and positive manner to promote an environment centered on the patient. Maintains confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
- Safety: Follows the National Patient Safety Goals, including Universal Protocol and patient identification using 2 identifiers. Demonstrates use of safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self and patients.
- Unit Specific Job Function: Demonstrates knowledge of conditions/diagnoses, procedures, and equipment for surgical patients. Individualizes patient care according to the procedure and anesthesia type. Assesses patient reactions and understanding of procedures/instructions.
- Responsibility and Accountability: Contributes to the perioperative team by assuming responsibility and accountability for directing patient care, prioritizing based on patient needs and condition changes.
- Patient Education and Chart Completion: Assesses patient’s understanding of surgical procedures and instructions, involving patients and families in teaching. Performs pre-op and post-op assessments and education.
- Duties Specific to PAT RN: Supports timely completion of patient testing. Evaluates Pre Admission Testing (PAT) orders for appropriateness and potential omissions based on surgery, patient age, and health status.

- 1 year PACU or Critical Care experience
- RN License - Required
- BLS - Required
- ACLS - Required
- PALS - Required
- CCR or CPAN - Preferred
Education
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (Associates or Bachelor's Degree) - Preferred
