GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The Registered Nurse assesses human responses and plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for individuals or families for whom the nurse is responsible. The Registered Nurse is fully responsible for all actions as a licensed nurse and is accountable to patients for the quality of care delivered. Nursing care is delivered in an outpatient setting.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assigns or delegates tasks based on the needs of the patient and skill level of the RN, LPN, or support staff. Assigns duties and lunches for staff when performing charge role.
- Considers maintenance of a safe environment, patient condition, complexity of the intervention, and predictability of the outcome.
- Provides peers with both verbal and written feedback regarding clinical practice and role performance.
- Shares knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues and cultivates a work environment that promotes positive employee attitudes, effective communication, trust, and collaboration.

- Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to evaluate clinical care or health services.
- Promotes patient safety initiatives (e.g., National Patient Safety Goals).
- Participates in department-specific quality initiatives (e.g., evidence-based practice population-specific). Ensures appropriate order sets are used.
- Supervises, delegates, and evaluates the scope of practice of assigned LPNs as appropriate.
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, evaluate, and implement a patient care plan tailored to individual needs, as prescribed by physicians, nurses, and hospital policies, including patient and family involvement.
- Derives culturally and age-appropriate expected outcomes involving the patient, family, and other healthcare providers.
- Analyzes the health status of individuals and families, comparing data with norms to determine care needs.
- Assesses patient reports/records for changes in condition, notifies physicians or supervisors, intervenes appropriately, and documents accordingly.
- Accepts assignments in areas other than the primary unit and performs duties within their competency.
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning and professional development for self and others.
- Participates in professional organizations to advance the profession.
- Engages in formal and independent learning activities using current research and evidence to maintain and develop skills and knowledge.
- Participates in peer reviews and seeks informal feedback from patients, peers, and colleagues to identify strengths and areas for development.
- Adheres to time and attendance policies per hospital guidelines.
- Centers patient and family satisfaction in care delivery, acting as an advocate for patients and customers.
- Participates in patient satisfaction initiatives and promotes compassionate, patient- and family-centered communication.
- Assesses and addresses patient/family concerns.
- Uses effective time management to complete duties within the work shift.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Current PA RN licensure or multi-state licensure through eNLC
- CPR certification
Preferred:
- Certification in area of specialty
