HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital is seeking a Pre Op Registered Nurse to join our Outpatient Surgery team in Sarasota, FL. You will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and techs to ensure safe, efficient perioperative care.

Ideal candidates hold Florida RN licensure (compact acceptable with FL active within 60 days), a Nursing Diploma or ASN (BSN preferred), and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Florida RN license (or compact license with Florida within 60 days of hire).
• Nursing Diploma or ASN required; BSN preferred.
• Previous experience in acute care setting preferred.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification required.
• Strong critical thinking, service excellence, interpersonal skills; ability to read and follow instructions; proficient with PCs.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
• Provide education to patients and families about the procedure and perioperative process.
• Prepare patients including IV therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification.
• Participate in surgical site verification, time-out, debriefing, and universal protocols.
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care with evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with a dynamic interdisciplinary team (providers, surgeons, techs, etc.).
• Apply nursing process, critical thinking, and leadership to deliver safe care.
• Assess patient condition, monitor during shift, document changes and care.
• Educate patients and families about condition, treatment, and follow-up steps.

Job Summary and Qualifications

We are seeking a Pre Operative Registered Nurse for our Outpatient Surgery. You will provide clinical expertise to ensure all patients receive high quality, efficient care in a high acuity environment. What you will do in this role:

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery

• Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process

• Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification

• Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols, according to hospital policy

• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives

• Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team – consisting of the provider(s), surgeons, surgical technologists and more

• Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients

• Assess patient condition, monitor throughout your shift, and document changes in patient condition along with the care provided thoroughly

• Educate patients and families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment and follow-up measures

What qualifications you will need:

• Licensure as a Florida Registered Nurse in accordance with state regulations or appropriate compact licensure. If compact license held, active FL RN license required within 60 days of hire.

• Nursing Diploma or ASN required; BSN preferred.

• Previous experience in an acute care setting strongly preferred.

• Current American Heart Association BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.

• Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, ability to follow verbal instructions, PC skills
