Job summary

MedCadre is seeking an experienced registered nurse for a stem cell transplant unit located across the street from Inova Fairfax Hospital. The role centers on post‑transplant care, including allogeneic and autologous CAR‑T patients, with strong patient assessment and line management required.

Shifts run 7:00 AM–7:00 PM; typically 2 RNs plus a Charge Nurse when staffed. The unit uses EPIC for charting and Omnicell for med dispensing.

• Strong IV insertion skills.
• Sterile central line dressing change experience.
• Strong patient assessment skills.
• Proficient with accessing central lines and ports.

EXPERIENCE / MUST-HAVE SKILLS:

Minimum 2 years of RN experience Minimum 1 year of stem cell transplant experience Strong IV insertion skills Sterile central line dressing change experience Strong patient assessment skills Proficient with accessing central lines and ports Experience providing nurse-driven supportive care

NUMBER OF CHAIRS:

PATIENT RATIOS:

Acuity-based; varies by day. Typically 1 RN to 3-4 patients.

STAFFING:

Typically 2 RNs plus 1 Charge Nurse when adequately staffed Charge Nurse present each shift

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:

BLS Chemo Certified

EMR / EQUIPMENT:

EPIC Omnicell medication dispensing system Alaris IV pumps

COMMON DIAGNOSES / TYPES OF PATIENTS:

Post stem cell transplant, including allogeneic and autologous CAR-T patients Post-transplant care Myeloablation/conditioning Heavy electrolyte replacement post-transplant IVIG Pentamidine Infection workups

PATIENT SAFETY / PRECAUTIONS:

Nurses must wear masks Awareness and adherence to neutropenic precautions required

COMMON INFUSIONS / MEDICATIONS:

Chemotherapy Immunologics Biologics Blood products Hydration fluids IV antibiotics Electrolyte replacement PJP medications Vaccines Subcutaneous (SQ) medications Intramuscular (IM) medications

CHARGE NURSE / HOUSE SUPERVISOR:

Charge Nurse present each shift

NURSING SUPPORT STAFF:

No LPNs No CNAs

RESPIRATORY EQUIPMENT / SUPPORT:

Nasal cannula In an emergency, staff would initiate BLS until patient transfer

PROVIDER COVERAGE:

Provider in-house from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM APP and MD coverage Provider on call after hours

SHIFTS / SCHEDULING:

7:00 AM-7:00 PM 3 shifts per week No self-scheduling No blocked scheduling Manager creates the schedule Flexibility is required

WEEKEND REQUIREMENTS:

Occasional weekends required Typically 1-2 Saturdays per month May be required to work 1 Sunday per month

HOLIDAY REQUIREMENTS:

Unit is open on all holidays Holiday scheduling is avoided when possible

FLOATING REQUIREMENTS:

SCRUB COLOR / DRESS CODE:

Navy blue scrubs No artificial nails Mandatory masking during cold and flu season

1 week or 3 shifts
