Job summary

New York Oncology Hematology is seeking a Nurse Clinician to coordinate the transplant department and deliver comprehensive nursing care across all transplant stages. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to manage high-dose therapy, stem cell transplant recovery, and ongoing patient support.

The role requires RN licensure, BSN/MSN, and at least five years of nursing experience including oncology. BLS certification is mandatory; oncology certification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • RN license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.
  • Minimum five years actively practicing as a registered nurse, including at least two years oncology experience.
  • Oncology certification preferred.

  • Maintains patient care documentation for reimbursement and data reporting.
  • Develops and maintains quality assurance and outcome monitoring for the transplant program.
  • Participates in clinical studies related to chemotherapy and transplant care.
  • Interprets and communicates research data to staff; assists with transplant program marketing.

Job Description

Pay Range: $80,000 - $98,000

SCOPE:

Coordinates the transplant department and provides comprehensive nursing care to patients and families during all phases of the transplant program. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. This includes physiological, psychological, and developmental differences unique to each group.

Essential Duties & Functions
  • Performs duties and responsibilities of a nurse clinician as required.
  • Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding status and medical history, assisting in physical exam and psychosocial assessment.
  • Reviews and reports the results of the health status assessment and physical examination, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data and psychosocial assessment of assigned patients to the transplant physician.
  • Oversees management of symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to the intense high dose therapy, stem cell rescue and rehabilitation following rescue in collaboration with transplant physician.
  • Provides psychosocial support to patients and families throughout therapy and rehabilitation. As necessary, facilitates communication among patient/family, physician and interdisciplinary team through facilitation of regular case conferences.
  • Facilitates or schedules consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests or procedures and future appointments required for admission to the program and throughout the transplant process.
  • Provides expert care for the transplant patient at all phases of the process consistent with established standards and utilization of the nursing process.
  • Provides patient, family, community, and professional education to those interested in the process of transplantation.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of standards for transplant patients in conjunction with other health care professionals.
  • Oversees the maintenance of written and/or computer documentation of all patient care and treatments provided and paperwork required for reimbursement purposes in accordance with office standards.
  • Manages the reporting of data to company Transplant Network, International and Autologous Blood and Marrow Transplant Registries and other appropriate bodies.
  • Incorporates company Transplant Network recommendations into clinical practice.
  • Develops and maintains quality assurance and outcome monitoring program.
  • Participates in clinical studies relative to chemotherapy and care of the transplant patient.
  • Interprets and communicates research and published data to nursing staff and other health care professionals relative to transplant patients.
  • Maintains equipment according to quality control standards. Assists with marketing of transplant program to other health care professionals, payers, and community.
  • Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Qualifications

Education/Training –

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or MSN preferred or required unless grandfathered in.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.
  • Minimum five years actively practicing as a registered nurse, including at least two years oncology experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of the purpose and use of chemotherapy in the treatment of cancer and hematopoietic stem cell transplant.
  • Oncology certification preferred.
