Job description

Operating Room Nurses are responsible for performing competent nursing practice and providing patient care through a multidisciplinary team approach. They maintain an environment of caring, patient‑focused care, and customer service.

Department: Operating Room. Hours: Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Pay: $41.10–$63.71 per hour, based on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients’ conditions and care delivery through direct observation, rounding, and data input from team members.
  • Collect pertinent data and recognize normal and abnormal findings.
  • Verify operative procedures, identify specimens, complete sponge, sharp and instrument counts, and ensure sterile integrity.
  • Coordinate bed and patient care assignments during and between shifts.
  • Plan and evaluate care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Document and report care delivered to physicians and team members.
  • Enhance professional growth through annual education in communication, teaching, stress management, conflict resolution, and team building.
  • Evaluate outcomes of care and adjust nursing approach accordingly.
  • Implement care and supervise other team members in alignment with the plan of care and safety/infection control standards.
  • Pursue required knowledge and skills through orientation, unit in‑services, literature, and clinical learning opportunities.
  • Perform circulating and scrub duties as assigned.
  • Predict potential risk to patients and initiate actions to minimize or prevent risk.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to the healthcare team during the shift.
  • Provide patient and family teaching, utilizing available resources.
  • Provide performance feedback to team members and input to management regarding appraisals.
  • Provide rationale for patient‑care decisions based on AORN standards for perioperative patients.
  • Establish effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and healthcare team members.
  • Serve as a strong, positive role model for other team members.
  • Takes call after hours as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Diploma in Nursing (ADN).
