LCMC Health in Louisiana is seeking an experienced OR Surgical Nurse to join our Metairie team. You will prepare patients for surgery, assist the surgeon, and ensure safety before, during and after procedures.

This role emphasizes teamwork, tissue handling, suturing, hemostasis, and post-operative assessments.

A valid Louisiana nursing license with 5+ years of nursing experience and BLS certification are required. This full-time position offers a collaborative operating room environment.

Qualifications

  • Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
  • Medical expertise in handling and cutting tissue, suturing, and achieving hemostasis.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient for surgery, review history, and provide care including supplies, medicine administration, positioning, vital signs, and assessments.
  • Assist surgeon in RN Surgical First Assist duties: incisions, instrument handling, and closure.
  • Implement surgical procedures such as controlling bleeding, suturing, draping, exposure and tissue handling.
  • Perform post-operative assessments and clinical documentation.
  • Monitor post-surgery patients for pain, complications, or infection per infection-control standards.
  • Collaborate to meet patient care needs and maintain a safe environment.

Your Everyday

Prepare your patient for surgery, review patient history, and provide patient care and support including supplies needed, medicine administration, patient positioning, vital signs monitoring, and health assessments.

Assist medical practitioner in general and specialized surgeries performing RN Surgical First assist duties as assigned by surgeon including incisions, initial cut and closure, instrument handling and preparation.

Implement surgical procedures such as controlling bleeding, suturing incisions, draping, providing exposure and handling tissues.

Perform required clinical documentation and post-operative assessments.

Monitor your patient after surgery for pain and/or complications and the surgery site for healing or infection following Joint Commission infection control and environment of care requirements.

Performs CPR Or Other Emergency Measures If Required.

Collaborate to identify and meet the overall needs of patient care or when unable to complete assignments or perform tasks promptly, effectively, or safely.

Maintain and advocate a safe environment for everyone.

Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional experience for every patient.

Initiate patient and family education on the operation and post-operation care as required.

The Must-Haves
Minimum

Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana and as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.

Medical expertise in handling and cutting tissue, suturing, providing hemostasis required

Minimum Of 5 Years’ Relevant Experience In Nursing.

Current American Heart Association BLS certification.

Preferred

Operating room experience
