Job summary

LCMC Health in New Orleans is seeking a dedicated RN for Same Day Surgery to provide compassionate pre- and post-operative care. You will review histories, start IVs, monitor vitals, and collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and care teams to ensure safe, efficient transitions to home care.

The role emphasizes clear communication, critical thinking, and teaching patients and families about home recovery.

Qualifications

• Current Louisiana RN license to practice.
• AHA BLS certification (required).
• ACLS and PALS certifications (required).
• Minimum 2 years RN flex experience.
• BSN degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide pre- and post-surgery patient care, review history, set up IVs, and monitor vital signs.
• Educate and prepare patients and families on home care after discharge.
• Perform required clinical documentation and pre- and post-operative assessments.
• Monitor post-operative patients for pain, complications, and wound healing following infection control guidelines.
• Collaborate to meet overall patient care needs and ensure timely task completion safely.
• Maintain continuity of care and excellent patient experience throughout the perioperative journey.
• Initiate patient and family education on operation and post-operative care as required.

Your Everyday

• Provide patient care before and after surgery, review patient history, set-up IVs, and monitor vital signs.
• Educate and prepare patients and their families on home care after discharge.
• Perform required clinical documentation and pre- and post-operative assessments.
• Monitor your patient after surgery for pain and/or complications and the surgery site for healing or infection following Joint Commission infection control and environment of care requirements.
• Perform CPR Or Other Emergency Measures If Required.
• Collaborate to identify and meet the overall needs of patient care or when unable to complete assignments or perform tasks promptly, effectively, or safely.
• Maintain and advocate a safe environment for everyone.
• Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional experience for every patient.
• Initiate patient and family education on the operation and post-operation care as required.

The Must-Haves

Minimum

• Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana and as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Current ACLS and PALS certifications.
• 2 years RN flex experience

Preferred

• BSN
• 1-year related experience
