Job summary

Talented Medical Solutions is seeking a Registered Nurse for NICU in Marysville, CA. This contract position requires EPIC experience and night shifts (36 or 48 hours, 12-hour shifts). Importantly, the RN will care for newborns in a high-acuity NICU with a 1:2 to 1:3 staffing ratio, and must meet California RN licensure requirements.

Qualifications

Job Summary

RN - NICU. Contract. Auto-offer EPIC backfill, Night Shift, 36 or 48 hours, 12 hr shift; must have EPIC experience.

Registered professional nurse who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated shift. Prescribes nursing care based on the nursing process, collaborates with physicians, coordinates patient care for any age group, incorporates teaching and discharge planning, delegates tasks to other nursing staff, and is represented by CNA.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN): Preferred
  • Acute care facility experience: Preferred
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice and BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS certification: Required
  • ACLS OR HS-ACLS OR RQIACLS certification at time of hire and demonstrated competency in Dysrhythmia during Orientation for all departments except Obstetrics and NICU: Required
  • Perinatal: Neonatal Resuscitation within 6 months of hire and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring within 6 months of hire: Required
  • Facility Specific License/Certifications: BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQI BLS: Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support): Required
Essential Functions
  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess patients, design and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Modifies plans as necessary, considering age specific, cultural, and spiritual needs.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines to formulate patient care plans.
  • Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and developmental stages to patient care delivery.
  • Utilizes pharmacology knowledge when preparing and administering medications and IV therapy.
  • Provides patient/family education across all phases of care.
  • Assesses knowledge, plans learning activities, varies techniques based on age and unique needs, and evaluates effectiveness.
  • Responds to emergency patient situations or disasters following established protocols, remains calm, and informs appropriate persons.
  • Oversees delivery of patient care and corrects errors to ensure safety and wellbeing.
  • Reports observations, reactions, and problems regarding patients in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for problem solving and clinical decision‑making during assigned shift.
  • Ensures continuity of care by promptly processing physician orders and all aspects of the treatment plan.
  • Prioritizes patient care and responds to workload changes.
  • Acts as patient advocate, safeguarding rights and intervening when necessary.
  • Delegates appropriately to CNAs and student nurses based on clinical competence.
  • Accepts responsibility for own actions and decisions.
  • Practices registered nursing according to the California Nurse Practice Act.
  • Maintains awareness of professional responsibilities and legal scope of practice.
  • Utilizes communication skills to assure effective communication with patients, families, staff, physicians, and coworkers.
  • Documents assessments, nursing interventions, and care provided.
  • Performs technical aspects of patient care per policies, adapting techniques to age and needs.
  • Prepares and administers medications and IVs considering age‑specific needs.
  • Performs emergency procedures such as CPR and assesses patient response.
  • Demonstrates safe use of equipment including electric beds, infusion pumps, mechanical lifts, suction devices, monitors, and other patient care devices.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
Organizational Requirements

All associates must receive all required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where applicable. Medical and religious exemptions may apply.

Unit Details
  • Total Bed Count: 6
  • Bed Types: 5 open NICU pods and 1 private airborne isolation room
  • Staffing Ratios: 1:2, up to 1:3
  • Specialty Care Newborns
  • Schedule Requirements: Call Required: Yes, if in contract, with a 30 minute response time
  • Float Required: No
  • Weekend Coverage: May schedule up to 2 weekends in a row, but usually every other
  • Scheduling Type: We understand nights usually like their scheduled days in a row, we try to accommodate preferences while balancing unit staffing needs
  • Medication System: Pyxis
  • Documentation System: Currently Cerner, but moving to Epic
  • IV Teams: Primary RN expected to start IVs unless there are failed attempts
  • Lift Teams: No, lift equipment available. Staff receive training
  • Pharmacy: 24 hours/7days/week
  • Phlebotomy: Lab draws all labs except newborn metabolic screens, heel stick for billing, etc.
  • Transportation: Hospital wide, rarely used in this unit
  • Transfers from L&D to Mother‑baby performed by RN
  • Unit Secretary: Assigned every shift and occasionally shared between L&D and Mother‑Baby/NICU units
  • Other: RT and NICU RN attend all deliveries and cesareans; part‑time lactation services; CRNA in house; OB hospitalist in house; OB and pediatric on‑call
  • Special Procedures: Specific to specialty. NICU prefers someone who can attend a delivery as the NRP nurse but not mandatory
  • Scrubs: Provided for those who frequent OR (L&D RNs and NICU RN assigned in NRP role in L&D). Not provided for general NICU and Mother‑Baby RNs
  • Time off requests should be submitted prior to accepting a contract.
