Job summary

UF Health Jacksonville is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Neuro ICU to provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients. The RN will participate in detailed assessments, monitoring, and care coordination with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care.

The role requires ADN with BSN within three years, Florida RN licensure, BLS, and ACLS within six months.

Responsibilities

Overview

At UF Health Jacksonville, our Neuro ICU nurses provide highly specialized care for patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. As part of an academic health system, Level I Trauma Center, and comprehensive neuroscience program, Neuro ICU nurses work alongside nationally recognized physicians, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional patient-centered care while advancing clinical excellence, education, and research.

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care utilizing the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and professional nursing standards. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients, including those with stroke, traumatic brain injury, intracranial hemorrhage, seizures, spinal cord injuries, and other complex neurological conditions.

The RN maintains accountability for assigned patients while coordinating care with physicians, advanced practice providers, technical nurses, patient care associates, and other members of the healthcare team. The RN functions as a patient advocate, promotes patient safety, and may serve as charge nurse when assigned.

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
• Serve as a resource and mentor to peers and support staff as appropriate.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice projects, and professional development activities.
• Function as charge nurse when assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing.

BSN Requirement

• New hires effective June 14, 2017, must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position.
• Employees hired or transferred between August 1, 2013, and June 13, 2017, must comply with the educational requirements outlined in their offer letter and job description at the time of hire or transfer.
• Employees hired or transferred prior to August 1, 2013, are grandfathered under previous requirements.

Preferred Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Required Licensure & Certifications

• Current Florida Registered Nurse license or eligibility for Florida licensure.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross prior to the first day of employment.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association within six (6) months of hire or transfer into the Neuro ICU.

Preferred Certifications

• Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
• Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN)
• Neuroscience Certified Nurse (CNRN)
• Other relevant specialty certification

Required Experience

• Less than one year of related nursing experience.

Preferred Experience

• One (1) year of acute care, critical care, Neuro ICU, ICU, emergency, stroke, or progressive care nursing experience.
