UF Health Jacksonville is seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive care for critically ill surgical and trauma patients within a Level I Trauma Center and academic health system.

You will perform advanced assessments, develop care plans, administer therapies, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. Leadership opportunities as Charge Nurse may be available, with emphasis on safety, quality, and patient-centered outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years ICU/CCU RN experience or completion of UF Health Jacksonville CC Fellowship.
  • Preferred: 2+ years ICU nursing experience.
  • Current Florida RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct care to critically ill surgical and trauma patients in a high-acuity ICU.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized care plans.
  • Monitor patient condition and respond to changes using critical thinking.
  • Administer medications, blood products, and therapies per orders.
  • Operate and monitor advanced critical care equipment and technologies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, APs, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and the care team.

Overview

At UF Health Jacksonville, our ICU nurses are at the forefront of providing life-saving care to critically ill surgical and trauma patients. As part of an academic health system and Level I Trauma Center, you'll work alongside a multidisciplinary team dedicated to excellence in patient care, innovation, education, and research.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse Manager, the ICU Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill surgical and trauma patients. The RN utilizes advanced assessment, clinical judgment, and critical care skills to manage complex patient needs while promoting exceptional outcomes and patient safety. The Registered Nurse is expected to perform all staff nurse responsibilities and may serve as Charge Nurse when assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver direct patient care to critically ill surgical and trauma patients in a high-acuity intensive care environment.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in patient condition, utilizing critical thinking and evidence-based interventions.
  • Administer medications, blood products, and specialized therapies in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.
  • Operate and monitor advanced critical care equipment and technologies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, procedures, and recovery expectations.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and compassionate care.
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities.
  • Serve as Charge Nurse and provide leadership support when assigned.

Qualifications
Required
  • One (1) to two (2) years of Critical Care/ICU Registered Nurse experience; or
  • Successful completion of the UF Health Jacksonville Critical Care Fellowship Program.
Preferred
  • Two (2) or more years of Critical Care/ICU Registered Nurse experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Florida Nurse Practice Act and professional nursing standards.
  • Ability to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care in a fast-paced critical care setting.
  • Proficiency with critical care monitoring systems, equipment, and technology.
  • Strong assessment, communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional patient and family-centered care.
