This RN Medsurg role is on our Oncology Unit here at Cobb Hospital.

7pm-7am - 36 hour week.

Job Summary :

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment that is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and is supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence-based practice and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values.

It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act. They implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As members of the patient services team, they uphold the voice of the patient, adhere to system policies and procedures, and support service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions :

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes

  1. Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) using evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and individualized care. Coordinates care through effective partnerships, recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal patient care outcomes.
  2. Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care that reflects the population's specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapts service delivery to cultural diversity.
  3. Partners with the patient and significant others (as appropriate) using methods such as bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, patient teaching, and keeping the patient and family updated, focusing on the patient's goals in the care plan.
  4. Practices according to current clinical standards.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  1. Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, promoting the professional care delivery model, including interdisciplinary communication and timely documentation.
  2. Demonstrates teamwork by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner that promotes recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
  3. Participates in performance improvement activities, research, and shared governance to promote safe, quality care, including leading or supporting such initiatives.

Professional Development and Initiative

  1. Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
  2. Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor to ensure a qualified workforce, modeling professional nursing practice and fostering a healthy work environment.

Evidence-Based Practice and Research

  1. Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement activities, participating in data collection and clinical inquiry.
  2. Upholds all healthcare policies, procedures, and standards, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar safety absolutes.

Resources and Support

  1. Proactively plans patient care across the continuum, supporting protocols and procedures to improve practice outcomes.
  2. Supports efficient use of resources and collaborates with care team members for optimal patient outcomes.

Required Minimum Education :

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred)

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) :

  • Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or BLS Instructor Certification

Required Minimum Experience :

Less than 1 year of completion of an accredited nursing program with clinical hours required; direct patient care experience preferred.
