This RN Medsurg role is on our Oncology Unit here at Cobb Hospital.

Shift: 7pm-7am - 36 hour week.

Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment that is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and is supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence-based practice and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values.

It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, it is expected that the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies, and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) using evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and individualized care, coordinating through effective partnerships to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Provides relationship-based patient-centered care that reflects understanding of cultural diversity, adapting service delivery accordingly.
  • Partners with patients and significant others using appropriate methods (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, patient teaching) to keep them informed and make their goals central to the care plan.
  • Practices using current clinical standards.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, promoting respectful, inclusive interdisciplinary communication and timely documentation.
  • Demonstrates teamwork by practicing responsibly and supporting recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
  • Supports performance improvement initiatives, research, and shared governance activities to promote safe, quality care.

Professional Development and Initiative

  • Completes all professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
  • Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor, modeling professional nursing practice and fostering a healthy work environment.

Evidence-Based Practice and Research

  • Promotes evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement in nursing.
  • Upholds healthcare policies, standards, and compliance requirements, including safety goals and organizational policies.
  • Participates in data collection, formulates clinical questions, and utilizes evidence to address practice issues.

Resources and Support

  • Plans for patient care across the continuum, supporting protocols and procedures to improve outcomes.
  • Supports efficient resource use.

Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all organizational policies and standards.

Minimum Education

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Nursing degree (Bachelor's preferred).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Instructor certification required upon hire.

Experience

  • Less than 1 year of clinical experience, completion of accredited nursing program with clinical hours required.
