Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment managed by Nurse Managers and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The practice framework is guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values.
All RN Clinical Nurses must be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the standards outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics standards from the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, they uphold the voice of the patient, adhere to system policies and procedures, and support service excellence goals.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and individualized care, coordinating care through effective partnerships to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care tailored to population-specific characteristics, including cultural diversity.
- Partners with patients and significant others using appropriate communication methods (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, patient teaching), keeping patients and families informed and centered on patient goals.
- Practices according to current clinical standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality care, promoting a respectful, inclusive clinical environment through effective interdisciplinary communication.
- Demonstrates teamwork by practicing responsibly and supporting the recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
- Supports performance improvement initiatives, research, and shared governance activities to enhance patient safety and care quality.
Professional Development and Initiative
- Completes all required professional competency assessments and mandatory education.
- Serves as a preceptor or mentor to foster a qualified workforce and promote a healthy work environment.
Evidence-Based Practice and Research
- Advocates for evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement, participating in activities like value analysis and clinical questioning.
- Adheres to healthcare policies, standards, legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, including TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar safety standards.
- Participates in data collection, consults with experts, and uses evidence to address clinical questions.
Resources and Support
- Plans proactively for patient care across the continuum.
- Contributes to protocol and procedure development to improve outcomes like reducing re-admissions and adverse events.
- Supports efficient use of resources.
Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all organizational policies and standards.
Minimum Education and Certification Requirements
- Associates or Bachelors Nursing preferred.
- RN license (Single State or Multi-state Compact) and BLS certification required upon hire.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum 5 years RN experience, preferably in direct patient care.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, respond to emergencies, and utilize clinical technology effectively.
