  • Maintain EMR documentation and ensure infection control compliance.
  • Assist with post-operative care and acute care interventions.
  • Respond to emergencies and coordinate with teams.

  • Orient and mentor new staff; participate in staff education.

Job Summary:

The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) on the night shift provides direct patient care, coordinates treatment plans, and ensures high-quality nursing services for patients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. This role demands strong clinical judgment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and commitment to patient-centered care, including assessment, medication administration, monitoring, education, and emergency response. The RN serves as a professional role model, mentor, and resource within the healthcare team.


Responsibilities:


  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in accordance with hospital policies and nursing scope of practice.

  • Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapy as ordered by physicians.

  • Monitor vital signs, symptoms, and patient progress; promptly report changes.

  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, discharge instructions, and health management.

  • Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health records (EMR).

  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.

  • Assist with post-operative recovery, chronic illness management, and acute care interventions.

  • Respond to emergencies and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams for optimal outcomes.

  • Provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.

  • Promote patient independence through education and goal setting.

  • Document and communicate patient care activities, irregularities, and ongoing needs.

  • Delegate and oversee tasks assigned to nursing assistants and other support staff.

  • Participate in nursing staff meetings and in-service education for professional development.

  • Orient and mentor new staff members.


Required Skills & Certifications:


  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License in the state of Idaho or approved compact state licensure.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification upon hire.

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within one year of hire.

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  • Prior Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred.

  • Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred Skills & Certifications:


  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.

  • Experience mentoring or orienting new staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a role model and resource for peers.


Special Considerations:


  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as needed.

  • Maintain good physical, emotional, and mental health to meet job demands.

  • Work environment includes direct patient care on a medical-surgical unit during night shifts.

  • Night shift schedule with potential for rotating shifts, weekends, and holiday coverage.
