Job description

Assists the Nursing Director to ensure the successful operation of the Nursing Service Department by providing professional nursing care to patients of all ages within an assigned area following physician's orders and Russell Regional Hospital Nursing Department Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications

Education:

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas. Ability to speak, write, and understand English. Current ACLS and BLS certifications or ability to obtain upon hire.

Experience:

The incumbent should have sufficient in-service and orientation regarding Nursing Policies and Procedures before starting to work independently. Must have the ability to maintain patient and Hospital confidentiality.

Job Knowledge:

Ability to communicate with persons of various backgrounds in a tactful, courteous manner. Must have comprehensive, timely knowledge of nursing theory and practice and be able to incorporate such knowledge in all conditions varying from the usual to the extraordinary and emergency.

Competency:

This employee meets competency levels relative to ages of patients.

Essential Job Functions

Assessment:

Ability to assess the delivery of nursing care and identify problems and any need for improvement.

Ability to assess the health status of assigned patients.

Ability to organize assessment data so that it is accurate, complete, accessible and confidential.

Planning:

Ability to plan individualized nursing care in collaboration with the patient, family and other members of the health care team, as well as assists others in the planning of care.

Ability to set discharge planning goals and develop a plan of action with patients, family and health care team and documents these goals.

Ability to plan ways to solve problems and make improvement in collaboration with supervisory personnel.

Implementation:

Ability to provide comprehensive, individualized care to patients based on their identified needs.

Ability to administer prescribed medications following established policies and procedures.

Ability to provide an environment for the patient that is safe and therapeutic.

Ability to provide teaching and learning activities based on assessed needs and following the documented care plan.

Ability to document appropriately on all forms.

Ability to communicate the plan of action and progress toward goal achievement, both verbally and in writing, to appropriate colleagues.

Ability to carry out physician's orders.

Ability to know and comply with established policies and procedures.

Ability to comply with regulatory agencies/mechanisms and procedures for control of supplies.

Ability to know policies, procedures, and equipment needed in an emergency including Code Blue.

Ability to attend Nursing Service Meetings and other meetings as requested, developing and delivering in-service education as assigned.

Ability to adhere to established Personnel Policies and Procedures.

Evaluation:

Ability to evaluate achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes, reassesses and revises the nursing care plan.

Evaluation regarding competency relative to ages of patients treated.
