Job summary

OPCO Skilled Management seeks a Charge Nurse (RN or LPN) to lead and supervise nursing care in our unit. You will ensure resident safety, plan, organize, and direct nursing functions, assign tasks by skill level, and maintain professional standards while upholding infection-control policies.

You will document nursing history, monitor vital signs, communicate with physicians and families, and collaborate with staff to provide compassionate, accurate care.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a current RN or LPN license.
  • Ability to understand, remember and follow verbal or written instructions in English.
  • Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to be flexible and positive with interruptions.

Responsibilities

  • Assure resident safety.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the nursing functions of patients in the unit.
  • Make nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees.
  • Maintain acceptable standards of patient care.
  • Identify problems and guide personnel to their solution.
  • Create a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel.
  • Accurately and promptly implement physicians' orders.
  • Support and enforce infection-control policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a professional approach with confidentiality.
  • Cooperate and maintain good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors.
  • Obtain and document nursing history from the patient and/or significant other.
  • Perform basic assessment of the patient, with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Record vital signs, note changes, and pursue further investigation as needed.
  • Assess for and notify physician of changes in condition.
  • Develop a care plan before end of duty time for incoming personnel.
  • Use care plans to provide safe and therapeutic care.
  • Follow established standards, policies, and procedures in nursing care.
  • Accept accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of nonprofessional staff.
  • Communicate with patients and families and health care team to achieve care plan goals.
  • Promote positive public relations with patients, residents, families, and guests.
  • Use tactful communications in sensitive situations and adhere to dress code.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders

  • Obtains and documents nursing history from the patient and/or significant other that is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems

  • Performs basic assessment of the patient, indicating adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology

  • Records vital signs, notes changes, and pursues more-specific investigation as needed

  • Assesses for and notifies physician and other appropriate parties of changes in condition

  • Uses assessment information to develop a care plan before the end of duty time that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient

  • Uses care plans as a basis for providing safe and therapeutic care to patients

  • Consistently follows established standards, policies, and procedures in providing nursing care

  • Accepts accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of nonprofessional personnel

  • Communicates with the patient and his or her family and other members of the health care team in carrying out the goals of the care plan

  • Promotes positive public relations with patients, residents, family members and guests

  • Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations

  • Use appropriate work place behavior and adhere to dress code at all times
