Job summary

Base salary: $40/hour on Inpatient Unit. Potential to earn up to $47/hour based on shift differential.

Shift differential: $5/hr. Nights $2/hr. Weekends.

Position Summary

Provides and directs physical and mental health care of patients located primarily on the 16‑bed inpatient unit while remaining flexible to the needs of Hamilton Center, Inc. (HCI). The RN functions as part of the interdisciplinary treatment team, may work in other HCI areas such as Vigo County Outpatient, and is required to perform crisis management by phone. Limited assistance may be required for consumers with activities of daily living (ADL).

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Demonstrate ability to conduct and monitor the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
• Conduct admission assessments and reassessments as indicated following policy, procedures, and standards of care.
• Follow admission and discharge procedures.
• Obtain and transcribe the licensed independent practitioner (LIP) orders accurately.
• Utilize nursing judgment regarding PRN medication orders within the parameters of the LIP orders.
• Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
• Document in the patient’s record according to policy and procedure.
• Assist in identifying patient and family educational needs.
• Teach patient and family educational needs, especially related to physical issues.
• Formulate a daily shift assignment based on each staff member’s ability to care for the patient.
• Ensure appropriate staffing needs for all shifts.
• Supervise Mental Health Technicians in collaboration with the Executive Director of Nursing Services and/or IPU Supervisor.
• Provide daily information at shift change and treatment review/discharge meetings.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities as assigned.
• Plan and lead educational groups related to patient treatment issues.
• Implement crisis intervention techniques during emergency situations.
• Provide crisis assessments under the supervision of the on‑call psychiatrist.
• Serve as a resource to Hamilton Center staff and community regarding available services, referral sources, emergency detention procedures, etc.
• Participate in cross‑training as assigned.
• Keep supervisor informed of potential crisis situations.
• Maintain basic computer skills and knowledge to access client information and update records.
