Job summary

Presbyterian Santa Fe Medical Center is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse to join our inpatient team. You will oversee patient care, coordinate with physicians and families, and uphold safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include directing nursing staff, educating patients and families, and maintaining clinical competencies with ongoing certification requirements. This role emphasizes teamwork, patient advocacy, and adherence to hospital policies and care protocols.

Qualifications

  • Degree from accredited nursing program is required.
  • Minimum ADN preparation is required.
  • Current RN license in NM or a compact state is required.
  • Certification from AHA, ASHI, or Red Cross is required.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • ACLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of patient care and direct nursing staff based on patient need.
  • Maintain clinical competency and adjust care as indicated to ensure quality.
  • Coordinate patient care with the patient, family, and other disciplines and physicians.
  • Explain patient rights, informed consent, and advance directives during admission.
  • Assess and address patient and family education needs and use home teaching aids.
  • Stay updated with nursing research, standards, and hospital policies to improve care quality.
  • Communicate with the nursing team and other disciplines to ensure teamwork and problem solving.
  • Perform on-call duties with ability to triage and visit as needed.
  • Direct own educational needs for common diagnoses affecting diabetes, wounds, nutrition, pain, hospice care.

Responsibilities:
  • Acts as clinical resource by overseeing the delivery of patient care, directs and delegates patient care assignments to home health aides and nursing staff based on acuteness of patient care needs and staff capability and anticipates future needs
  • Maintains clinically competent in providing direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care..
  • Coordinates patient care through collaboration with the patient, family, all other disciplines, primary and secondary physicians and community resources/programs.
  • Ensures that patients understand their rights and responsibilities, advanced directives and the meaning of informed consent during the admission process.
  • Assesses and directs patient and family teaching needs and is proficient in the use of return demonstration and teaching aids in the home setting.
  • Maintains professional responsibility for knowledge of current nursing research, practice standards, guidelines and protocols, and hospital policies, procedures, and programs to improve patient care quality.
  • Effectively communicates and assists other members of nursing team and/or other disciplines. Actively participates in problem solving and conflict resolution to maintain team cohesiveness.
  • Performs on-call duties effectively with the ability to triage patients over the phone and visit when needed.
  • Directs own educational needs for the top 10 ICD9 codes and/or diagnoses for diabetes, wounds/post-surgical, arthritis, newborns, Coumadin dependency, malnutrition/ nutrition needs, medication instruction, pain and symptom control/hospice care.
Qualifications:
  • Degree from accredited academic nursing program

  • Minimum ADN preparation

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Mexico or Compact State RN license required.

  • Required Certification from either AHA, ASHI, or Red Cross

  • BLS

  • ACLS
