Job summary

Wayne State University Physician Group is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Infusion Clinic in the Detroit area. You will provide general nursing care, perform venipunctures and IV therapies, and assist physicians with treatments and procedures in an ambulatory setting.

The ideal candidate has 8–10 years of RN experience (preferably in ambulatory care), a Michigan RN license and BLS, with Med-Surg roots in Oncology, Neurology, Rheumatology, or infusion clinic work.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing is required.
• Current Michigan RN license; BLS certification.
• 8–10 years RN experience; ambulatory care preferred.
• Med-Surg background with Oncology/Neurology/Rheumatology or infusion clinic experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document vital signs in the EMR.
• Assist physicians with procedures and treatments in ambulatory setting.
• Venipunctures, IV therapies and injections per orders.
• Educate patients and families on care plans and expectations.
• Schedule tests, coordinate referrals and follow-ups; discharge instructions.

Developing and educating the next generation of exceptional health care professionals.With more than 100 locations in hospital-based clinics, outpatient health and specialty care centers, we provide the most advanced medicine and thoughtful, patient-centric care to the greater metro-Detroit community.Job Summary:The Registered Nurse (RN) - Infusion Clinic provides general nursing care to patients under the direction of Physicians.Job Description:Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Perform and document in the electronic medical record patients’ vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respirations) height, weight, allergies; alert physicians of any abnormalities in vital signs or appearanceInstruct or assist patients in specimen collection, tests and proceduresPrepare patients for physical examinationsAssist Physicians with or coordinate patient treatment, procedures and surgeriesPerform venipunctures, IV therapies and injections according to physicians’ orders or patient emergenciesDispense medications as prescribed by physicians; document medication orders in medevant or electronic medical recordDocument in the medical record complete and accurate summaries of care given, including procedures performed and observations madeSchedule/coordinate testing, treatments, x-rays, consultations with/referrals to health care providers, inpatient admissionsReview laboratory/test results; recognize abnormal laboratory/test results and notify physiciansContact patients with test/procedure resultsReview physicians’ discharge instructions and follow-up appointments with patientsCall in prescriptions/refills to pharmacies for patients as directed by PhysiciansEducate and counsel patients and family members on health conditions, desired results of treatment plans, expectations during illness and recovery and other related areasCheck diagnostic laboratory forms and physicians’ orders on patient’s record for accuracy and completenessMaintain clinical areas to ensure the necessary medical equipment, supplies and pharmaceuticals are stocked and availableAnswer telephones, direct/triage patient calls, take messages, relay messages/information to the appropriate personnel; contact patients regarding test results and recommended follow-upEstablish and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the department and/or practiceEducation, Licensure/Certification, and Training:Associate Degree in Nursing requiredBachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferredCurrent Michigan Registered Nurse LicenseCurrent BLS Certification 8 – 10 years’ RN experience required, preferably in an ambulatory care settingMed-Surg background, preferably in Oncology, Neurology, Rheumatology or prior experience in an infusion clinic.Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient careKnowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, JACHO and HIPPA regulationsKnowledge of Public Health Code and Michigan Nurse Practice Act preferredAbility to react calmly and effectively in emergency situationsGood written and verbal communication skills to convey and receive information effectively (face-to-face, telephone and electronic)Good analytical and judgment skillsAbility to use computer software programs and systemsAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel and/or financial dataExcellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks and manage timeSafety Requirements:Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and proceduresWorking Conditions/Schedule:40-hour work week, hours and days to be determined by the business needs of the department.
