The ideal candidate has an associate degree or higher, an active RN license in California, and at least one year in PACU or critical care, with required BLS/ACLS/PALS and TNCC

  • 1 year PACU or critical care experience required.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS required; TNCC within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to surgical patients in the preoperative and postoperative period.
  • Receive and integrate reports from anesthesia, surgeon, and circulating RN into the care plan.
  • Manage pain, bleeding, nausea; ensure proper positioning, airway, and stable vitals.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and monitor post-anesthesia recovery status.
  • Perform nursing duties including meds, IV therapy, catheters, and equipment use per policy.

RN II-PACU (Mandatory Call) - Surgical Recovery

Talented Medical Solutions - Contract - In-Office | San Luis Obispo, CA, USA

Day Shift - 36 or 48 hours per week Auto Offer, EPIC Backfill. Must have current Epic experience.

Nestled on the Central California Coast, Sierra Vista has been providing care to our community since 1959. Our 162‑bed acute care facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a county‑designated trauma center. San Luis Obispo offers the excitement of a lively community while being a fifteen‑minute drive from the serenity of Avila Beach, known for its natural hot springs, and Pismo Beach, known for its sand dunes and eucalyptus trees. Featuring a charming downtown, comfortable coastal weather, idyllic views, and an active lifestyle, San Luis Obispo offers much to be had.

Responsibilities

Provides nursing care to surgical patients in the immediate preoperative and postoperative period.

Receives report from anesthesiologist, surgeon and/or circulating RN regarding surgical intervention and incorporates this into nursing plan of care.

Assures control of pain, bleeding and nausea, proper positioning, management of airway, and stabilization of vital signs.

Responds immediately to emergency situations.

This position is represented by CNA.

Qualifications
  • Associate Degree (A.S.) or equivalent: Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Preferred
  • One year PACU or critical care experience: Required
  • Current RN license in state of practice: Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required within 1 year of hire or transfer into the department (Current employees as of 06.30.2021 have 2 years to complete).
Essential Functions
  1. Competent to perform physical assessment of patients post anesthesia - general, spinal, regional, or IV sedation.
  2. Competent to manage the airway of a patient following anesthesia.
  3. Recognizes the symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other impending emergencies 100% of the time.
  4. Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations.
  5. Competent in all routine nursing skills including medication administration, intravenous therapy including blood products, care & maintenance of indwelling catheters & drains, safe use of any medical equipment used in the critical care setting, and understands and follows chain of command per policy.
  6. Competent to monitor hemodynamic status of post-surgical patients.
  7. Accurately interprets ECG rhythm and manages care of patients during life threatening emergencies in populations served.
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application, able to make recommendations for best monitoring based on patient presentation.
  9. Competent to manage pain control requirements of post surgical patients without airway compromise.
  10. Demonstrates understanding of pharmacological interactions and physiological effects of anesthesia and narcotic analgesics.
  11. Competent to determine safe patient discharge from the recovery room using established PACU discharge standards.
  12. Demonstrates appropriate use of restraints per Hospital policy.
  13. Competent to access facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for the provision of patient care or in the performance of other job related responsibilities.
  14. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately fulfill job specific responsibilities related to patient safety, security, emergency preparedness, emergent patient situations, control of hazardous materials/waste, life safety, medical equipment and utility systems as outlined in the Hospital's environment of care plan.
  15. Maintains professional and technical knowledge and skills.
  16. Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve services and unit operation.
  17. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
