Job summary

UnityPoint Health’s St. Luke’s in Sioux City is seeking a Registered Nurse to guide patients and families through the care journey, applying the nursing process from assessment to evaluation to craft individualized care plans. You will collaborate across teams to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care and build trusting relationships.

The role emphasizes teaching, documentation, and patient safety while supporting a culture of belonging and development opportunities for team members.

Qualifications

• Must have completed an accredited nursing program and possess a valid nursing license for the state of Iowa.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required prior to hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months from date of hire, unless ADT Nurse and not part of code blue team.
• NIHSS education within 90 days of hire and maintained every two years; six hours of stroke education prior to end of orientation and annually.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing teaching and making referrals for continuity of care.
• Develops an individual plan of care with patient/family and health care team.
• Promptly completes documentation to ensure an accurate legal record of patient care.
• Delivers high quality care using the nursing process and applying knowledge and clinical skills for the assigned unit.
• Utilizes a holistic approach considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria for the patient’s age group.
• Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and holds them accountable for the plan of care.
• Uses critical thinking for independent judgments and maintains responsibility for patient conditions.
• Assesses and selects teaching strategies appropriate to patient/family age, culture, and readiness to learn.
• Prevents errors, accidents and infections and reports concerns immediately to ensure patient and workplace safety.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
• Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
• Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
• Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
• Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.
• Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and hold them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
• Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
• Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
• Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

Qualifications

Education:

• Must have completed an accredited nursing program and possess a valid nursing license for the state of Iowa.

License(s)/Certification(s):

• Valid nursing license

Basic Certified Life Support certification prior to hire.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within 6 months from date of hire, UNLESS ADT Nurse and not part of code blue team.

Must obtain NIHSS education within 90 days of hire and maintain every two years thereafter. Completion of six hours of stroke education prior to the end of orientation and annually.

• Machines: Pumps (IV, PCA, Epidural, Feeding), Chest tubes, Suction, IV’s, Pulse Oximeter, Ventilators, CRRT
• Administrative: Blood transfusion, ET, Infection Control, PT/OT, Inhaler, Order Entry, BLS, ACLS certification of hire.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Basic computer knowledge.
• Successful completion of unit orientation and competencies.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.
