Job summary

Hospice of the Valley in Chandler operates an 11-bed inpatient Dobson HomePalliativeCare unit. We seek a compassionate registered nurse to join our interdisciplinary team and provide one-to-one, patient- and family-centered care, focusing on comfort, dignity and meaningful support during critical moments.

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum one year of recent experience in medical, surgical or critical care.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills.

  • Solution driven, creative problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage time and follow through with details.

Position Profile

Hospice nurses in palliative care units serve patients whose symptoms can't be managed at home and patients who need respite care while the family caregiver is away. Nurses educate patients and families about the disease process, help manage and control pain and other symptoms and offer solace to those in distress. They are part of the interdisciplinary inpatient hospice team that supports people at critical junctures in their lives, always making a difference.Our Dobson HomePalliative Care (inpatient) Unit is a beautiful 11-bed facility located in Chandler.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains therapeutic relationships.
  • Plans care and intervenes effectively.
  • Provides effective pain/symptom assessment and management.
  • Facilitates smooth transition between care environments.
  • Provides effective patient/family/caregiver/caregiver teaching.
  • Supports the death/dying process.
  • Collaborates in providing patient care.
  • Creates timely and accurate documentation.
  • Utilizes resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Adheres to scope of practice/HOV standards and facilitates continuously improved processes/services.
  • Maintains and enhances professional skills.
  • Adheres to high standards of personal and professional conduct.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum one year of recent experience in medical, surgical or critical care as a professional nurse.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Solution driven, creative and resourceful problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage time well and perform assigned duties with attention detail, accuracy and follow-through.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous hospice or oncology experience.
  • Knowledge of the death/dying and bereavement process.
