Corewell Health is seeking an ICU Registered Nurse for the night shift at Dearborn Hospital. You will care for post–open heart/CABG patients in a 16-bed cardiovascular/cardiothoracic unit, with 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, up to 1:3 as needed, and support from a Nurse Leader.

The role emphasizes patient-family centered care, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and adherence to Corewell Health policies. Prior ICU experience and cardio specialty is valued.

Qualifications

• Associates in Nursing required.
• Bachelor’s in Nursing required within 5 years.
• MI RN license required.
• BLS from AHA/Red Cross/Canadian Heart and Stroke required upon hire.
• ACLS required within 6 months.
• 1 year ICU RN experience preferred.
• Direct inpatient care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care using the ANA framework to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge.
• Collaborate with Nurse Leader and health-team to plan care and educate patients/families; document in health record.
• Care for ICU post-open heart/CABG patients and other high-acuity cardiac patients as assigned.

About the unit

HVICU night shift time 3:30 p.m. - 4:00 a.m.

This unit is a 16-bed cardiovascular/cardiothoracic care unit. This unit's primary specialty is post-open heart/CABG patients. Post-op CABG patients will recover in the ICU for 2-3 days. The patient population will include cardiac procedure requiring ICU level care, open-heart patients direct from the OR, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, TAVR procedure, and STEMI intervention. RNs will care for patients requiring ventilator support, SWAN-GANZ catheters, vasopressors, inotrope drips, high alert drips, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), IMPELLA devices, and chest tubes. Nurse to patient ratio 1:2 for regular ICU patients, high acute 1:1; there are times we may need you to be 1:3 depending on staffing needs and the acuity in the unit as a whole.

Scope of work

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in health record.

Qualifications

• Associates in Nursing Required


• Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years


• Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.


• MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required


• Basic Life Support (BLS) from one of the following organizations - American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Required upon hire


• AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required within 6 months


• Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years


• 1 year of experience as an RN in the ICU Preferred


• Direct inpatient care Preferred
