RN Float Pool Perioperative, West Penn Hospital

West Penn Hospital’s Periop Float Pool consists of highly trained RN specialists capable of functioning across four specialty areas: ASC, GI Lab, PACU, and either OR or Cath Lab.

West Penn Hospital’s OR features 17 operating rooms and a Cystoscopy suite. It is the robotic hub of the health system, with a dedicated burn center and a bariatric center of excellence, performing a variety of procedures including robotics, general surgery, bariatrics, women’s health, and oncology.

The GI Lab at West Penn Hospital specializes in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, averaging 25 adult patients daily. RNs are expected to conduct pre-procedure assessments, circulate cases, and assist in post-anesthesia recovery.

ASC (Pre-op) is a 10-bay unit, and PACU has 18 bays.

The Cath Lab handles approximately 800 procedures annually and includes a STEMI Program with 2 procedural rooms. RNs will function in pre-op, intra-procedure, and post-op areas.

This position includes a $7/hour additional allowance on top of the base rate per West Penn CBA.

GENERAL OVERVIEW: The RN assesses human responses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for individuals or families, ensuring quality and accountability in care delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

• 2 years of acute care OR OR/Cath lab experience
• Current PA RN license or multi-state licensure via eNLC
• CPR certification (American Heart Association)
• ACLS certification (American Heart Association preferred)
• Act 34, Act 33, and Act 73 background clearances

Responsibilities:

• Perform clinical assessments and care planning
• Provide safe, effective care aligned with regulatory standards
• Lead and coordinate patient care activities
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from admission to discharge
• Assess learning needs and provide culturally appropriate education
