Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Float Pool Days role provides professional nursing care across multiple hospital units, ensuring patient safety, comprehensive clinical documentation, and continuity of care. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, participates in quality improvement initiatives, and supports a positive and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This role requires adaptability, strong communication skills, and adherence to hospital policies and standards, including maintaining current licensure and certifications.
Responsibilities:
- Render professional nursing care and carry out provider orders within assigned units.
- Provide comprehensive clinical documentation including care plans each shift.
- Communicate patient information effectively through bedside shift reports, multidisciplinary rounds, and hourly rounding.
- Maintain compliance with unit-specific competencies and complete required learning modules timely.
- Promote a culture of well-being and positive atmosphere within the department.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment by following established procedures and protocols.
- Identify and assist in correcting patient care safety issues and promote error reporting under Just Culture principles.
- Participate in daily unit-based safety huddles and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
- Collaborate with nurses across departments to share expertise and assist team members.
- Develop and implement personal performance goals based on self-assessment and feedback.
- Provide culturally competent patient education materials.
- Serve as a preceptor for new nurses and collaborate with nursing students and instructors.
- Participate in peer feedback, employee engagement surveys, and DNV survey readiness.
- Effectively delegate nursing care and unit activities to other personnel.
- Manage earned time off (ETO) and avoid unauthorized overtime.
- Complete required dysrhythmia course prior to orientation completion for telemetry units.
- Maintain current nursing licensure and certifications as required by the department.
- For Occupational Health assignments: enter orders for labs, imaging, EKGs; follow up on test results; document point of care tests.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Current Registered Nurse license in New Hampshire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Graduate of an approved nursing program preferred.
- Basic Dysrhythmia knowledge or certification preferred or obtained prior to orientation completion.
- Strong clinical nursing skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or obtained prior to orientation completion.
- Experience in telemetry or specialty nursing units.
- Previous experience in float pool or multi-unit nursing roles.

- Must comply with hospital policies including Just Culture and safety protocols.
- Participation in shared governance and adherence to unit and organizational philosophies.
- Ability to function effectively in multiple clinical settings and adapt to varying patient populations.
- May be required to work in Occupational Health with specific procedural responsibilities.
- Commitment to avoiding unauthorized overtime and managing earned time off appropriately.

- Day shift assignments within the hospital's float pool.
- Shifts assigned based on unit needs and staffing requirements.
