Job summary

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) role supports the surgical team by assisting the surgeon with exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other technical tasks during surgery. This position emphasizes patient safety and optimal outcomes by preparing sterile supplies and positioning patients per hospital policy.

Based in Wisconsin, this full-time daytime role runs Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, in a surgical environment requiring strict sterile technique and adherence to surgeon

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Wisconsin.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Completion of an accredited RNFA program or equivalent first-assisting education.
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize sterile supplies, instruments, equipment, and drapes for surgical procedures.
• Position patients safely for surgical procedures.
• Assist with visualization and hemostasis during surgery using appropriate techniques.
• Assist with closure of body planes and apply appropriate wound dressings.
• Insert and secure drainage systems to tissue as needed.
• Utilize surgical equipment and supplies safely, including pneumatic tourniquets, electrocautery, and endoscopy equipment.
• Perform other duties as requested by surgical team or management.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Wisconsin.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• One or more years of related operating room or surgical experience preferred.

Special Considerations:

• Work performed in a surgical environment requiring strict adherence to sterile technique and patient safety protocols.
• Must comply with hospital policies and surgeon directives during procedures.

Scheduling:

• Day shift, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
