Job summary

Henry Ford Health seeks an RN First Assist in the Operating Room to join our Macomb Hospital team. You will support surgeons intraoperatively, collaborate closely with the OR staff, and help ensure safe, efficient patient care before, during, and after procedures.

The successful candidate will hold an Associate Degree in Nursing with an RN license in Michigan, be enrolled for CRNFA within a year, and have 3 years of RN experience plus BLS certification. CNOR and high-acuity experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Active Michigan RN license.
• 3 years of RN experience with RNFA/CSFA training from a CAAHEP program.
• Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons intraoperatively and anticipate instrumentation needs.
• Support preoperative and postoperative patient care.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to maintain a safe OR environment.
• Perform scrub, circulate, and turnover duties when not acting as first assistant.
• Maintain certification and stay updated on best practices in surgical nursing.

Role Overview

As an RN First Assist (RNFA), you will work under the supervision of the operating room surgeon to assist in performing safe surgical procedures. Collaborating with the healthcare team, you¿ll ensure optimal patient care before, during, and after surgery. Your expertise will directly support surgeons, enhance team efficiency, and improve patient outcomes in a fast-paced surgical setting.

Required Qualifications

• Associates degree in Nursing; Bachelors degree preferred.
• Current Michigan RN license.
• Certification as a CRNFA from the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI) within one year of employment.
• 3 years of experience as a registered nurse with completion of an RNFA program or CSFA training from a CAAHEP program.
• Current BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• CNOR certification.
• Experience in a high-acuity surgical setting.
