Job summary

HCA Healthcare's Corpus Christi Medical Center seeks a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room on a PRN basis. The RN coordinates high-quality, patient-centered care in the fast-paced ED, collaborating with medical staff to ensure safe and effective treatment protocols.

The role requires 1 year of ER experience, Texas RN licensure (or a compact license), and completion of required certifications (ACLS/BCLS, PALS, TNCC, ENP within specified timelines).

Qualifications

• ACLS and BCLS certifications required.
• PALS certification required within 30 days.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention within 30 days.
• ENP certification for pediatric emergency care within 18 months.
• TNCC certification within 60 months.
• Texas RN license or compact licensure required.
• Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
• ER experience of at least 1 year required.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management and reassessments after intervention.
• Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider and documents in the patient record.
• Responds promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipates needs to deliver exceptional care.
• Teaches patients and families about medical conditions, status, treatment plan, medications and potential side effects, and follow-up measures.
• Educates patients and families about non-medicinal follow-up measures and prepares for future self-management.

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.

• Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.
• Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
• Performs exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
• Teaches patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
• Teaches patients/families/caregivers about any non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management.

What qualifications you will need:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support
• Basic Cardiac Life Support
• Emergency Nurse Pediatric Cour must be obtained within 18 months of employment start date
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Trauma Nursing Core Course must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
• Registered Nurse of Texas or compact licensure
• Associate degree of Nursing required
• 1 year of Emergency Room exp required
