Overview

This position leads the provision of patient care using the nursing process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code, and Scope & Standards of Practice. The role delegates, directs, and assists licensed and ancillary team members; assumes accountability for quality patient outcomes; demonstrates sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity; and supports the organization’s philosophy of nursing. The position is accountable for the achievement of unit and department strategic goals and objectives and demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability for individual practice.

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in nursing

Certifications

• Current registered nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Preferred: Certification in a clinical specialty area

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
• Excellent organizational and time‑management skills

Job Duties

• Effectively uses the nursing process in the delivery of patient care
• Assesses learning needs and implements teaching strategies appropriate for diverse patient, family, and interprofessional needs
• Communicates, delegates, and manages nursing team resources (human and fiscal) and serves as a leader and partner on the interdisciplinary team
• Uses data, information, and knowledge to evaluate and promote change in order to achieve optimal outcomes
• Embraces concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction, employee morale, and the nursing profession
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including privacy, introduction style, explanation of services, permissions, and communication style

• Maintains knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements relevant to the area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations, and standards

Physical & Environmental Demands

Physical demands described include the exertion of 50–100 pounds occasionally, 25–50 pounds frequently, and 10–20 pounds constantly to move objects. Work requires walking or standing for significant periods, sitting most of the time with pushing or pulling, and working at a production rate pace that may involve constant pushing/pulling of materials. Routine duties expose the incumbent to blood, body fluids, tissue, and communicable diseases. The role also presents risk exposure to hazardous medications or waste.
