This position leads the provision of patient care using the nursing process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code, and Scope & Standards of Practice. The role delegates, directs, and assists licensed and ancillary team members; assumes accountability for quality patient outcomes; demonstrates sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity; and supports the organization’s philosophy of nursing. The position is accountable for the achievement of unit and department strategic goals and objectives and demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability for individual practice.
Physical demands described include the exertion of 50–100 pounds occasionally, 25–50 pounds frequently, and 10–20 pounds constantly to move objects. Work requires walking or standing for significant periods, sitting most of the time with pushing or pulling, and working at a production rate pace that may involve constant pushing/pulling of materials. Routine duties expose the incumbent to blood, body fluids, tissue, and communicable diseases. The role also presents risk exposure to hazardous medications or waste.
