Job summary

Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for ECMO ICU opportunities. The role involves priming, initiating ECMO therapy, circuit exchanges, and rapid deployment transport, with a 7:00pm–7:00am shift.

A $15,000 sign-on bonus is available for full-time candidates with 2 years of acute care ECMO experience. Join a Platinum Center Of Excellence program and work with a dedicated ECMO team in a high-acuity environment.

Qualifications

  • ECMO Specialist RN experience required.
  • Strong foundation in acute care nursing and critical care principles.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required; CCRN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prime and initiate ECMO therapy.
  • Independently perform circuit exchanges and emergent interventions.
  • Operate and troubleshoot multiple ECLS components and pumps.
  • Transport ECLS patients intra-/inter-hospital as part of the ECMO Deployment Team.

The ECMO ICU is looking for experienced ECMO Specialist RNs who strive to deliver the highest quality care for our ECMO population. Come join our ELSO Platinum Center Of Excellence Program! The ECMO Specialist is expected to prime, initiate therapy, independently perform circuit exchanges and emergent interventions, and be proficient in the operation of multiple ECLS components and pumps. Performs intra/inter hospital transport of ECLS patients as part of the interdisciplinary Rapid ECMO Deployment Team.

ECMO ICU
Patient Population

All ECLS patients receiving VA, VV, VP, VA-V, RVAD and ECPR therapies. Disease processes including but not limited to postcardiotomy syndrome, cardiogenic shock, advanced heart failure, pre and post heart/lung transplant, ARDS, and post cardiac arrest.

Patient Ratios

ECMO Specialist to pump ratio 1:3

10 dedicated ECMO beds located inside CTTICU, dedicated ICU physicians and ACNP coverage 24/7, 100% certification rate (CCRN, CSC), multiple research trials and publications, and 1 of 2 NTX ECMO programs with ECMO Specialist RN led transport teams.

Registered Nurse Requirements
  • Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program
  • License/Certification
  • 2 years of ECMO Specialist RN Experience
  • BLS – Basic Life Support (required within 30 days of hire)
  • ACLS- American Heart Association
  • CCRN – through AACN
