RN Director of Education:

Department: Education / Nursing
Position: Registered Nurse (RN)
Pay Rate: $40-$45 per hour

Position Summary

The RN Director of Education is responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for nursing staff and other clinical employees. This position ensures that employees receive appropriate orientation, ongoing education, competency training, and professional development consistent with facility policies, regulatory requirements, and New York State standards.

The RN Director of Education will also be responsible for coordinating and teaching Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training classes, supporting students through the CNA training process, and maintaining working knowledge of New York State Department of Health and Prometric CNA examination requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate, and maintain the facility's nursing education and staff development programs.
• Provide orientation and onboarding education for newly hired nursing and clinical staff.
• Assess educational needs and develop training programs based on identified staff competencies and facility needs.
• Conduct ongoing in-service education for RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other appropriate staff.
• Teach and coordinate CNA training classes, including classroom instruction, skills training, and preparation for the CNA certification examination.
• Maintain current knowledge of New York State CNA training requirements and Prometric examination procedures.
• Assist CNA students with preparation for the NYS Prometric written and skills examinations.
• Maintain accurate CNA training records, attendance records, competency documentation, and required educational records.
• Ensure educational programs comply with applicable New York State Department of Health, CMS, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
• Monitor employee competencies and coordinate annual competency evaluations and required skills validations.
• Identify educational deficiencies and develop corrective education and retraining programs when necessary.
• Collaborate with the Director of Nursing, Administrator, department heads, and clinical leadership to identify education and training needs.
• Assist with quality improvement initiatives through education, staff development, and competency monitoring.
• Participate in survey preparation and provide education-related documentation during regulatory surveys.
• Maintain current knowledge of changes to nursing practice, long-term care regulations, infection prevention, resident rights, and other applicable requirements.
• Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, accountability, and continuous learning.

CNA Training Responsibilities

The RN Director of Education will serve as a key educator and coordinator for the facility's CNA training program and will:

• Coordinate CNA class schedules, curriculum, clinical experiences, and student requirements.
• Provide classroom instruction and hands-on clinical skills education.
• Teach students proper resident care techniques, including activities of daily living, infection prevention, communication, safety, and resident rights.
• Evaluate student competencies and provide constructive feedback.
• Maintain required student documentation and training records.
• Communicate with students regarding training expectations, attendance, competency requirements, and examination preparation.
• Maintain familiarity with NYS Prometric CNA testing requirements and procedures.
• Assist students in understanding the certification process and preparing for the Prometric examination.
• Stay informed of changes to New York State CNA education, certification, and testing requirements.

Qualifications

• Current and unrestricted New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Previous experience in nursing education, staff development, long-term care, or clinical leadership preferred.
• Experience teaching nursing assistants or CNA students preferred.
• Strong knowledge of long-term care nursing practices and regulatory requirements.
• Working knowledge of New York State CNA training requirements and Prometric testing procedures.
• Strong communication, organization, leadership, and teaching skills.
• Ability to develop and deliver engaging educational programs.
• Ability to work effectively with employees at varying levels of experience and education.

Preferred Experience

• Experience as a Staff Development Coordinator, Nurse Educator, ADON, DON, or similar nursing leadership/education role.
• Experience with CNA training programs.
• Experience preparing students for the NYS Prometric CNA examination.
• Experience working in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting.
• Knowledge of CMS and New York State Department of Health regulations.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to perform the physical demands associated with a clinical nursing environment, including standing, walking, assisting with skills demonstrations, and participating in hands-on training as needed.
