Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is seeking a dedicated RN to join the Colorectal Surgery unit. You will deliver direct nursing care, implement care plans, and coordinate discharges with families, adapting to patient needs with empathy and professionalism.

Responsibilities include monitoring conditions, updating plans, and educating patients. Requires ADN/BSN, RN license, BLS, and ACLS within 1 year. Nursing staff are supported by strong leadership and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN).
  • Current state RN licensure.
  • BLS certification for healthcare providers.
  • ACLS certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patients' conditions.
  • Evaluate and revise plan of care to achieve outcomes.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess discharge needs and coordinate arrangements.
  • Educate patients and families with appropriate materials.

The H50 Colorectal Surgery unit is part of Cleveland Clinic's Digestive Disease Institute, where surgeons perform more than 5,000 surgical procedures annually. Working with 16 colorectal surgeons, our dedicated and highly engaged nursing staff is focused on providing world-class medical and surgical care to patients with medical problems such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, colon cancer and genetic bowel disease. On this unit, nurses report a strong sense of teamwork and appreciate the empathetic leadership from Nurse Managers. The Nurse Managers have realistic expectations for their caregivers, act as advocates, and help when nurses are overwhelmed.

As an RN on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care by interacting directly with patients, families, and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare information as needed. This position requires a caregiver who is empathetic, understanding and nurturing to ensure quality patient care and effective life-saving treatment.

A caregiver in this position works rotating day/night shifts from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Evaluate, update and revise plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
  • Educate patients and family with educational materials considering cultural issues and other special concerns
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with approved nursing protocol
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • One year of current acute care RN experience OR military RN experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross
  • If in a critical care area Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within one year of hire
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $35.50

Maximum hourly: $55.60
